The Importance of Relationship (Pastor Ruben Torres)

Remember Rocky V? Go For It!

Is it possible to have meaningful relationships?  We live our lives so guarded that we constantly hide from the world our authentic self image.  We become masters of disguise, mirroring always the expectations of others and masking our true concerns, needs and longings not only from people around us but even from our own selves.  At the end of the day no communication we have with others carries any substance-- the issues of the heart are simply never to be addressed.

That’s why I personally employ a very simple strategy especially used when I go get my coffee.  Some may find this uncommon or out of the comfort zone but you never know, this perhaps will benefit you as it has also helped me.  When I go to Starbucks and the employer asks me how are you doing?  I go off and I tell them what’s on my heart and mind.  Crazy right?  To my surprise I have consistently discovered that when the heart speaks, the hearts will answer.

It’s a very liberating experience and a good place to start to pursue the discipline of having a less superficial lifestyle.  Would you dare try to do the same today?  In the words of the movie Rocky V...go for it!!  Let’s see what happens.

Impartation Rom 1:10-12

Impartation.

Sometimes the impact of a person’s life is not properly understood or fully appreciated until generations after that person is gone. On rare occasions, one generation is not enough to contain the unique measure of the Spirit that some have inherited in God.  Those who break into the full grace of the powers of the age to come are tasting, seeing, hearing and experiencing things totally foreign to the affairs, concerns and dilemmas of our current time and worldly system. That's a frustrating and difficult place to be for a person who is overwhelmed by the vision and passion of the heart of God for humanity.

The phenomenon and miracle of impartation resolves this problem of discontinuity within the kingdom by preserving, maximizing and multiplying all that God has revealed, birthed and invested in a person’s life beyond their own time even if they were not well received, accepted or understood in their own particular days on earth.  God's solution for Elijah after his depression was simply to pass on the mantle.  Many generations later, that measure of grace in the power of the Spirit was fully expressed and appropriately incorporated by the life of John the Baptist to prepare the way for Christ.

In a more modern and contemporary example, Smith Wigglesworth poured tears into the forehead of Lester Sumrall until they mixed in with Lester's own tears and he prayed, "Let all the faith and grace that is over my life come into this young man," and then he said, "I see it!! I see it!! I see it!! The greatest revival in the history of the world is coming!! I will not see it but you will."  And that he did.  Lester Sumrall saw it at least in part because let me tell you something my friend, that legacy of grace and impartation is still on the earth today waiting to be apprehended, assimilated and understood by those who are hungry for it.  It's time to receive an impartation.  The mantle of many generations is falling upon the earth today!!

Messianic Christian?

Messianic Christian?

For all of you who are buying into a supposedly Jewish-Christian movement and are slowly being sunk back into Judaism, here are some thoughts for you to consider.

Within a Christian world view all of the Old Testament and Judaism itself has already been redefined around the Messiah and the Spirit.

We don't celebrate the Passover meal, we celebrate its fulfillment in Christ's death and resurrection; we don't celebrate the feast of Pentecost, we celebrate its fulfillment in the coming of the Holy Spirit, etc. The feasts, Election, Torah, Temple, Land, Eschatology, and Monotheism itself has been redefined and restructured around Christ Jesus the Son of God and the sending of His Spirit.

The Word

Often we seek for meat when in reality what we need is the milk of the word. Many pursue deep things that their shallow lives are unable to handle (1Peter2:2).

The Christian Matrix.

The Christian Matrix.

William Lane Craig, who is one of the world's leading apologist, shares that one of the unexpected consequences of the renaissance of his work has been a spiritual awakening in the life of people who are familiar with his resources. This has caught him totally by surprise. It seems that to bring into focus the objectivity of Christianity has broken the spell off of believers who were trapped inside the ethereal matrix world of philosophical speculation.

To know we no longer have to hide truth buried inside the closet of our subjective poetic imagination has reintroduce the power of the Holy Spirit as a dynamic force that confirms the specific worldview of Christianity when it is truly and properly expounded, respected and presented in its proper historical context. The preaching of the gospel has always carried the demonstration of power.

Perhaps the reason we are no longer seeing the demonstration of the power of God is because we are no longer preaching the gospel of Christ instead we have adopted and promoted a new postmodern version of the faith lead by men who lack sensitivity for orthodoxy are irreverent of catholicity are empty of accountability and merely just seek attention for themselves.

A Preacher Ask Me One Day

A preacher ask me one day, if I know someone who could come speak at his conference. I ask him, do you want someone who will transform the lives of the people or are you looking for a person that will bring a big crowd? He answer, I want a well known person that will bring me a bigger audience.

I was very disappointed, I expected a lot more out of his leadership. When you get your own event,

What would you have at your conference?

A Wake Up Call!!!

A Wake Up Call!!!

Why is it that the most important things in life are also the ones we often leave more unattended and uncared for? Health, family and God are just a few things to be mentioned that may be squeezed somewhere in the back of our minds but don't rank very high on our schedule when it comes to very practical things like investing money and time into them.  When reality strikes and a reality check comes suddenly, we find ourselves flat on our backs looking up asking ourselves what have I done with my life?  Have I fulfilled that which I was born for?  How did I live the sum of my days and in what manner have I conducted myself now that it is all over?

Then we look around and we want to see our mothers and fathers there around us, maybe our relatives and someone really good that will care enough to fervently pray on our behalf to God.  At the end of the day there is a horrible sense of regret, remorse and emotional torment simply because we think to ourselves  "What a waist of time! I should have...I could have spent more time with the people and in the things that count the most and are more important.  My friend, this is another inescapable fact that nobody wants to spend time thinking about.

We will all be there someday flat on our backs.  We are all on our way there right now!  This is our wake up call!! Let's get ready now and get our priorities straight!   God's future in the renewed heavens and earth will be the expansion, the extension, the amplification and most importantly the redefinition of our current present day-to-day reality.  We are supposed to practice now faith, hope and love--the  habits of heart and mind that wll be ours for the rest of eternity.

Who Wants To Be A Superstar?

Who wants to be a superstar?

We can play in a mediocre league and be part of a team of less than average players, and that way we can be a starter or even become the main star of that team, scoring double digit numbers in our statistics and getting all the attention of those around us.  Or instead, we can be a part of a major high-level league, enrolling in a team where the best in the world are playing.  There we may serve in a small role, maybe as a substitute, not playing major minutes but around those guys in that level of competition, we will become the best players that we could possibly be at the highest possible level that we could ever play.  Which one would you rather be?  I think the decision will be primarily made depending on what are your goals, desires and objectives as a player.  In other words, the question is the following:  Is your goal to be the best player you can possibly be or is your goal just to have fun while playing the game?  We can take this as an analogy for Christianity.

What are our goals and desires as a Christian?  Do we settle for a mediocre spiritual experience because we just want to have fun socializing in the game of Church?  Do we want to be in ministry just to stand out among the less capable of discerning spiritual truths to get all the attention we can get?  Or would we instead pursue to become the best follower of Christ that we could possibly be, challenging ourselves by being surrounded with the most serious, mature people we can find?  Where are the people today who want to reach the highest level possible in their walk with God?  It seems most people are content with a shallow spirituality.  They go to church to hear the music but not to be transformed in worship.  They sit down to hear something that will make them feel good but not hear anything to the point that it would challenge them out of their comfort zone to do something for Christ they have never done before.  They go to a building to gather around those they can socialize with, people they have something in common with—race, gender, work, education—anything or everything except a God encounter.  It’s a social club to see friends they can have a good time with, maybe get a pay check doing some church work or network with others for their next ministry hookup. In the team of high level Christianity, the superstars are the ones who die daily to self, who sacrifice continually all they have for the advancement of the kingdom, who esteem others higher than themselves and eagerly pursue the well being of others over their own interest.  They are those who forgive those who offend them and pray for those who persecute them, who are willing to lay down their life in the service of their community, washing the feet of others in love and humility.

They don't want to be recognized, they are not looking for attention, they are not seeking to be exalted or to impress others with spiritual babbling, they are pursuing intimacy with Christ, transformation into the image of the Son of God.  They are looking for their only reward-- to hear well done thou good and faithful servant!  So who wants to be a superstar now?  I hear people saying they are hungry to learn the word yet they don't show up to bible class and spend more time watching tv and playing with their computer than reading the bible or meditating on the word.  I hear others say they are hungry for God yet they hardly show up to Church, they are not accountable to anyone and cannot take correction from anybody.  How many days have you gone without food, fasting and asking God to change your life?  Or how many hours have you spent locked inside a room telling God you won't leave the room until He shows up and speaks into your life gain?  Hungry for God?  I don't think so--maybe hungry for attention!!   So who wants to be a superstar now?

Rabbinic Exegesis?

No, you dont need a tallit to understand Jesus so take off your kippah. The Talmud is not a reliable source for first century Christianity not even first century Judaism it was mainly finally edited in the end of the second century ad, By that time as those familiar with History know Judaism was already radically recapitulated and substantially transformed. After the year 70ad with the destruction of the Temple Judaism was never the same again it had evolved to adapt to its new social reality and new cultural pressures.

Asking

 Asking

I am not asking God for more words to preach to others; I am seeking Him to receive the kind of language that would engage Him in conversation so I can dialogue with Him in a true relationship.  I am not asking God for another display of His power; I am crying out for more of the deep assurance of his love that overwhelms me with the reality of his forgiveness, mercy and compassion towards me.

I am not looking for more songs so I can record a new worship album and have another successful Christian concert; I am longing for the kind of heavenly music that when I am in secret with Him will bring sacred romance to the heart of God, manifesting the atmosphere of His glory and intimacy that transforms me into His image.  I am not asking God for a big church, a large crowd or a huge auditorium; I am asking Him to allow me the privilege to gather around those who have this same vision and desire in their hearts.

I will spend all I have, go anywhere I need to go, sacrifice whatever needs to be lost, pay any price that needs to be paid to find such a place, such a person, such a people, such a community that understands that life without the reality of God is not worth living, that things can only be beautiful and purposeful as long as they stand in proper relationship with him who is perfection and beauty itself. I am asking... What are you asking for today?

The Father and Son communion

The Father and Son communion is at the center of the creation of the universe. The focus of the cannon of scripture is to experience the revelation of God as the Father and Son relationship (John17:1-3).
